About

My name is Jeff Caplan and I love helping people see better. OK, it may seem like an odd passion but I have seen the benefits and happiness our products brought to dentists and surgeons since the early 80s, and I am convinced that those same benefits–outstanding vision, eyestrain relief, back, neck and shoulder pain relief–can and should be enjoyed by anyone, young and old, doing fine detailed art, hobbies, crafts, art, etc.

Why wouldn’t everyone want to see better??

As a family business, I entered my working years involved in the magnification world in one way or another (see post The CraftOptics Story), and have spent over two decades in international product marketing and sales, investment, and management.  My career included 3 years as Executive Vice President of Orascoptic (we created magnification products for surgeons and dentists), and 4 years as General Manager, Europe for Orascoptic, based in Paris, France (yes, it was very cool) where I assembled and trained our European distribution network and spent considerable time with our customers studying how they used and worked with magnification.

This study time proved valuable in gaining a better understanding of our products’ effect on ergonomics which in turn led to improved design and to my interest in applying this knowledge to the artist, hobby, craft and other markets where people need to see fine detail.  Now with CraftOptics, I’m spreading the word.

Playing with my kids, cooking, eating, reading, keeping fit, traveling, corny French music, 80s music, and very ripe cheese all make me happy.  I speak enough French to survive, and will cook for you if you are nice to me.

Enough about me.  Tell me your story!
